My interest in music was evident early on. When I was 2, the girls next door gave me their Barbie guitar. At 4 I was known to have memorized the lyrics to “Silly Love Songs” and “The Things We Do For Love” and sing them on top of coffee tables during parties. But this was the 70’s and no one thought to help me develop this interest. Finally at the age of 12, my Mom bought me my first guitar, a red metallic Lotus LP-styled copy and I started taking lessons in Benton, AR.
Throughout my early years, I’d been interested in drawing and design, obsessively drawing Snoopy & the Peanuts gang and playing with legos. Around the same time I started playing guitar I was also intrigued with architecture.
All of these skills and interests collided in the early ’90’s while working at a recording studio after college. There I enjoyed engineering some great recordings and helping musicians with their marketing materials. That led to my first job as an art director in advertising.
I know this is the perfect career for me. Have a conversation with me sometime about how important the role of design and marketing is… you’ll see how passionate I am about this work!
And although design is still what I do for a living, music has remained the most passionate thing for me all these years in some capacity or another...the soundtrack of my life.
